The Story

The Project Repat story starts in Nairobi, Kenya, where Project Repat co-founder Ross Lohr was doing non-profit education work. After sitting in traffic for 2 hours, he discovered the cause of the jam: an overturned fruit and vegetable rickshaw pushed by a Kenyan man wearing a t-shirt that said “I Danced My Ass Off at Josh’s Bar Mitzvah;”

Amazed by all the incredible t-shirts that get sold off and sent overseas by non-profit and for-profit companies in America, they began working with Kenyan artisans to design new products out of castaway t-shirts, including bags, scarves, and re-fabricated t-shirts. Those products were “repatriated” (or returned to the country of origin) back to the United States and sold to raise money for non-profits working in East Africa.

When trying to sell their upcycled products at markets in Boston, they quickly discovered the difference between a “good idea” and a real business: while potential customers liked the idea of a repatriated upcycled t-shirt bag, they didn’t like it enough to buy it. What customers did ask for, time and time again was an affordable t-shirt quilt.

They had heard enough: instead of shipping goods all around the country, why not create fair wage jobs in the United States and create a product that has a lot of meaning for customers? As they say, the rest is history. Rather than ‘repatriating’ t-shirts back to the United States, Project Repat creates a high-quality, affordable t-shirt quilt with minimal carbon impact that ‘repatriates’ textile jobs back to the United States. 5% of the trash on Earth is used textiles. The average American trashes 65 pounds of clothing per year. Project Repat is upcycling them into something new.

Quilts for Large and XL T-Shirts

For men’s XL and women’s XL sizes, it is recommended to go with the 14 by 14-inch panels in order to capture more of your images. These quilts are 15% larger than their standard panel quilts.

Embroidered Fleece Blankets

Custom embroidery on your choice of size and color super soft fleece blankets. Also the perfect gift. No T-Shirts are used on these blankets, just a fleece. They are available in 2 sizes and 8 colors – navy blue, gray, light blue, orchid, red, green, magenta, and black-. You can choose up to 3 custom lines of text for the embroidered fleece blankets.

Cotton Masks

They offer two kinds of cotton masks, both tie around the back of the head instead of looping around the ears. They can be washed many times, and are made of a heavier material that will keep out more germs and particles. The white masks are pleated, while the green and purple masks are not.

The BioSmart masks have loops around the ears and use Miliken’s BioSmart Level 1 patented antimicrobial material. It can be washed up to 75 times and can be washed with bleach to activate an anti-microbial material killing up to 99% of germs. It’s a lighter weight, which is great for the summer and hot temperatures, but highly effective and the material is used for a lot of medical PPE.

Customer Reviews

For more insight on Project Repat’s services and quality, you can hear from the feedback of their satisfied customers. Jill B. says, “Your amazing team created what will be a cherished keepsake for years to come. Our daughter Olivia lovingly chose her shirt panels from many memories of her life. Your team so beautifully brought her cherished memories together in the throw. Your customer service, responsiveness, quality, and creativity is incredible. Thank you from our family to yours!”

Douglas V. says, “The T-Shirt quilt turned out great! At first, I was a little skeptical but as I started ‘collectibles’ t-shirts which I bought more for souveneirs rather than to wear, all the memories of the previous trips, concerts and people that were attached to these t-shirts came back – it made the process fun! Now the quilt made with these t-shirts holds a lot of great memories! And it’s comfy too.”

You can see that the customers are very satisfied and recommend the brand to others as well.

Conclusion

It’s a brand that stands for something and wants to make a positive impact on the world as a whole.
